It starts with a scream. A passenger collapses, convulsing, their eyes wild and desperate. Within minutes, others follow—attacking, biting, tearing at anyone who comes near. Claire watches in horror as the train descends into chaos. Passengers turn on each other, driven by an inexplicable, rabid hunger. No one knows what’s happening. Is it a terrorist attack? A chemical spill? A disease?
Claire doesn’t care about the why. All she knows is that Emily is trapped alone at the front of the train, surrounded by the chaos. And then it hits her: the realization of how stupid and cruel she’s been. Facing possible death, Claire sees the truth with painful clarity: her walls weren’t built to keep Emily out. They were built to protect herself from the pain of loving someone she thought she’d lost.
Then, Chaos erupts.
Claire and Emily, estranged sisters, haven’t spoken in five years. Claire, bitter and resentful, reluctantly flies to Europe to settle their father’s will, while Emily, who stayed in Vienna to care for him, hopes this trip will mend their fractured bond.
Emily books a 12-hour train journey from Amsterdam to Vienna, believing the confined space will force them to reconnect. But after aheated argument, Emily retreats to their sleeper car at the front of the train, while Claire stormsoff to the bar car at the rear. The physical distance between them mirrors the emotional chasm Claire has insisted on maintaining.
There isn’t one.
Claire must fight her way through the train’s treacherous cars, battling the infected and her own guilt, to reach Emily, who’s trapped and surrounded. As the sisters struggle to survive, Lana Werner, a CDC scientist, is secretly informed of the impending threat and uncovers the horrifying truth: the virus is a bio-weapon she helped create, now unleashed by a shadowy military cover-up. With no cure and the train hurtling toward disaster, Lana and a ruthless General must contain the outbreak—even if it means sacrificing everyone on board.
